The Hearts, Horses and Heroes benefit to support the future of Wisdom Farm was a huge success! So many of you from the community came to support Wisdom Farm. It was an evening of community, celebration, and support for a great cause. All event proceeds, plus 10% of all sales in the Unbridled Mercantile, went directly towards Wisdom Farm’s rescued and retired horses and our youth and veteran programs.
The Veterans Garden Project uses our on-site garden to help veterans feel more grounded, present & focused. They are able to connect to the Earth by planting fruits and vegetables and seeing the results of their work. They learn how to prepare the food they grow & harvest. We held our first Cooking Night at Unbridled Cafe in East Amherst where veterans cooked a meal using the food they grew in the garden.
The Katrina Pierce Memorial Barn dedication and ribbon cutting took place on Saturday, August 13, 2022. It was a very special day with the Pierce family, honoring the memory of Katrina. Katrina let us know she was with us, as a stunning angel-shaped cloud appeared above the barn just as the ceremony began!
Katrina was an amazing young woman who was one of our biggest fans. She was a warrior and overcame a chronic health condition and was able to complete high school. She had plans to volunteer with us, but tragically passed away before that could happen. Through the generosity of Katrina’s family, we were able to build Katrina’s Barn, where we help heal horses with chronic health conditions. These horses then help heal veterans and anyone else that needs their help. Katrina will be at Wisdom Farm in perpetuity and it is an honor to have Katrina’s Barn at Wisdom Farm. Thank you to the Pierce and Russell families and to our friend Katrina, who is watching from above.
We watched with pride, tears, and a true sense of family as Katrina’s parents cut the ribbon on Katrina’s memorial barn. It was a very special day for us and we were honored to be part of it.
We introduced Katrina’s horses to her family and told the story of each horse; from severe abuse to cancer and Cushings disease, each of them deals with a serious, chronic health issue.
We will guide them through their care and treatment and begin to heal them physically and emotionally, all in the memory of Katrina Pierce.
At each step along the way in the building of Katrina’s barn, there were moments and signs when we believed Katrina was letting us know she was pleased.
At the ribbon cutting one of the guests caught this stunning angel cloud above the barn just before we began!
Katrina's Healing Garden has been Planted!
Labor Day 2023 was the perfect day to plant Katrina's Healing Garden! A grassy section to the left of Katrina's Memorial Barn was the perfect place and, for some reason, was calling out to be a healing garden! As with all things Katrina, it came together in record time, with help from many amazing people. Katrina’s family came to plant the perennials and it was a really beautiful morning with a very special family. Our sincere thanks to the entire Pierce Family; Chris and Paul Marchewka; Mike Weber Greenhouse, who was key to us getting this project done; and our own Matt who tilled and dug until the garden was the perfect shape. We hope many people will be able to come and find healing and hope in Katrina’s garden.
Memorial Bench Dedication for "Cowboy Grandpa" Preisch
Wisdom Farm was proud to help the Preisch family honor their “Cowboy Grandpa” by dedicating a memorial bench outside Katrina's Barn. Their beautiful family included three Air Force Veterans and Jewel was very receptive to everyone. Thomas, did his “Thomas thing” of course - outgoing, affectionate, and adorable.
We also had a visit from the Saperston Family and Marco from the Chip Charitable Foundation, who were our very first donors. They believed in us from the beginning and the Chip Charitable Foundation has funded our veterans workshops so the veterans can attend at no charge. It was beautiful to bring all of them together on this bright summer day!
Do you have someone you would like to dedicate a bench, plaque or memorial marker to and have it proudly displayed at Wisdom Farm? Please call 716-866-5274.
